Quitlines in Europe: An update on the treatment of addiction to new nicotine products

'The majority of quitlines have a unified approach to treating nicotine addiction, regardless of the delivery method.'

Quitlines are telephone services and online resources that provide information and support to help people quit smoking.

However, the scope and activities of many quitlines have expanded due to the changing tobacco landscape. In many cases, they now also include providing information and support for quitting new nicotine and tobacco products.

This report shows that most quitlines do not have a specific protocol for treating nicotine addiction caused by non-tobacco products, but that it is treated. The reason for this is that many quitlines treat nicotine addiction regardless of the delivery method.
