De expert meeting is op 24 juni 2023.

Alcohol is a global risk factor for disease and Europe is the heaviest-drinking region in the world. In December 2021, WHO published “Digital marketing of alcohol: challenges and policy options for better health in the WHO European Region”. This included consideration of the threats to children and young people and other vulnerable groups related to the growth in digital marketing of alcohol, including the challenges posed for regulation, control and monitoring. Next steps proposed in the report included to develop intersectoral policy dialogues to implement identified policy considerations identified in this report and to convene an action-driven expert network on digital marketing of alcohol.

This expert meeting will take place the day after EUCAM’s European conference on effective marketing regulations to protect young people, where, among other issues, participants will have discussed scientific evidence in relation to digital marketing and its risks, and regulatory approaches and implementation challenges and successes, as well as future directions for research. In this meeting, invited experts will:

  • Revisit policy options in the WHO report and receive an update on actions that have been taken.
  • Discuss and recommend next steps that WHO should take to support progress on implementation of effective policies, bringing research evidence to policy actions.

The working language of the meeting will be English. Documents for the meeting will be made available prior to the meeting.
